Directors' Profiles
Ian Painter, Managing Director and co-founder
Ian is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the business and manages a number of consultancy projects on a day to day basis.
With more than a dozen years' experience in the GI industry, Ian has a proven track record of delivering leading edge, multi-million pound, object oriented, geospatial systems. Prior to forming Snowflake, Ian held the position of Senior Technical Consultant at the UK 's national mapping agency, Ordnance Survey, where he was responsible for the re-engineering programme that created OS MasterMap.
Eddie Curtis, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder
Eddie is the main architect of GO Loader, GO Publisher and the OS MasterMap viewer. In a long career as a software engineer within the geographical information sector, Eddie held a number of roles before co-founding Snowflake Software.
Eddie is a specialist in spatial database design; he led the development of the high performance data server at Ordnance Survey which is used for the generation of OS MasterMap.
Phil Lines, Sales Director
Phil was appointed as Sales Director in Dec 2008 to help Snowflake build its customer facing team and operational response to cater for the increase in demand as customer solutions develop and client requirements become more advanced.
Phil has worked in the sales environment as a Corporate Account Manager, International Channel Partner Manager and Global Accounts Manager for over 17 years. Like the other Directors, Phil worked at the Ordnance Survey until recently as Head of Partner Alliance Programme.
Simon Perry, Director
Simon joined Snowflake shortly after start-up and takes an active role in the development and strategic direction of the Snowflake product suite.
Before joining Snowflake Simon has been an independent IT contractor, developing Enterprise Java web solutions for major companies, including IBM and Legal & General. Prior to that he was a Senior System Developer and an International Consultant at Ordnance Survey in Southampton.
Peter Woodsford, Chairman
Peter was appointed a non-executive director of Snowflake Software Ltd in 2002. Peter helped to launch Laser-Scan Ltd in the early 1970s and held many positions in the business, including managing director and chairman..
Peter is highly regarded within the GIS industry and is the author of over thirty publications on Geographic Information and associated technologies and business applications. He is a key member of the OpenGIS Consortium (OGC) and is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. In 1990 he was Chairman of the Association for Geographic Information (AGI). He was recently President of EuroSDR Commission 5 - Delivery and Integration of Data and Services - and is a Visiting Professor at University College London.
